DRAWING-COLLAGE SERIES ( March 2020 - March 2021)

160 collages pieces. Variable size. Black indelible felt pens, black acrylic paint, cold press watercolor paper.

I started working on the Drawing-Collages series as the world came to a halt at the beginning of the quarantine. Aware as I was of what was going on here and around the world, I chose not to get caught up in a turmoil of draining emotions. Instead, I took a plunge into my work with a very small set of art supplies, a lot of silence, and fragments of old drawings.

My work is not preconceived. I articulate images as I work on them. In the case of collage, it is usually a fragment of an image that generates the need to gradually articulate another image. In a state of focused attention, a little piece of paper with a mark — energy —, invites me to embark on an inner and outer dialogue. It is a journey that connects me with what I am manifesting. Every move is a pondered decision. It can take hours and sometimes days or even weeks of continuous or interrupted sessions to solve a piece.

Elements, Landscapes, Maps, Towns, Notes and letters, Scriptures. Still Lives are some of the titles of the Drawing-Collages. They are encounters, evocations, re-readings of much-loved places, natural and built spaces, and works of art.
